Worms is one of Germany's oldest cities and one of the most important historic destinations along the Rhine. The city is renowned for its Romanesque Imperial Cathedral, the Luther Monument, and the Diet of Worms in 1521 where Martin Luther appeared before Emperor Charles V. Home to the Holy Sands Cemetery, Worms preserves one of the oldest surviving Jewish cemeteries in Europe and is one of Germany's most significant Jewish heritage sites. The city is closely linked to the Nibelung legend, which continues to shape its cultural identity.
