Description
Urbino is an exceptionally well-preserved Renaissance city in the Marche region and an important center of European art and cultural history. Its UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic center is known for the imposing Palazzo Ducale, its harmonious Renaissance architecture, and as the birthplace of the painter Raphael. Under Federico da Montefeltro, Urbino developed into a major center of humanism, art, and scholarship in the 15th century. The city combines a remarkably preserved historic townscape with a long-standing university tradition and a picturesque setting amid the rolling hills of the Marche. Urbino is considered one of the most outstanding examples of the Italian Renaissance.
