Short description of Tibesti Mountains
The Tibesti is the highest range in the Sahara, a volcanic massif whose shield volcano Emi Koussi rises above three thousand four hundred metres and carries a nested caldera on its summit. The Trou au Natron nearby is an explosion crater hundreds of metres deep with a white natron floor and small cinder cones standing on it. Hot springs steam out of the ground at Soborom and Tubu villages sit in the gorges. Rebel movements work the Libyan border, gold mining camps generate their own violence and the mines laid in the Libya wars were never cleared, so nobody is travelling here.
