Short description of Ennedi Massif
The Ennedi is a sandstone plateau the size of a small country, eroded into towers, arches and hidden canyons and inscribed as world heritage for both the landscape and the rock art inside it. The Guelta d'Archei holds water all year at the foot of a gorge where herders bring hundreds of camels down to drink and a relict population of desert crocodiles has hung on. The Aloba arch spans some seventy metres of open air. Thousands of paintings and engravings cover the shelters. There are no hotels of any kind, so this is camping behind a licensed operator with an escort.
