Description
Tari is the centre of Huli country in the far west of the Highlands, a basin at sixteen hundred metres where men still wear wigs of their own hair decorated with everlasting daisies and hornbill beaks, and paint their faces yellow with ochre. Bachelors spend months in seclusion at wig schools growing the hair that is cut and made into them. The forest above Tari at Ambua is one of the best places on earth to see birds of paradise, with several species displaying within an hour of the lodges. Access is by air, and the lodges arrange everything from the airstrip.
