Description
Stirling is a historic city in central Scotland and an important centre of Scottish history and culture. Strategically located at a key crossing of the River Forth, it played a central role in the Scottish Wars of Independence. Its landmark, Stirling Castle, is one of Scotland’s most significant royal residences, rising majestically above the city and once serving as the childhood home of Mary, Queen of Scots. Nearby, the National Wallace Monument commemorates William Wallace and his victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. The historic Old Town, with its cobbled streets and Church of the Holy Rude, adds to Stirling’s medieval character. The city is also a gateway to the scenic landscapes of the Trossachs and Highlands.
