Glencoe

Description

Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most spectacular valleys and a defining landscape of the western Highlands. Surrounded by steep, pyramid-shaped peaks and dramatic ridges, the valley was shaped by ancient volcanic activity and carved by glaciers. Glencoe is also remembered for the infamous massacre of 1692, when 38 members of the MacDonald clan were killed. The Three Sisters and the secluded Lost Valley are among the region’s most rewarding hiking destinations. The area has featured in the Harry Potter films and Skyfall. Nearby Fort William lies at the foot of 1,345-metre Ben Nevis. The Glenfinnan Viaduct and Jacobite Steam Train further connect the region with the world of Harry Potter.
