Its UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town is renowned for its distinctive skyline of fourteen surviving medieval towers, narrow streets, atmospheric squares, palaces, and frescoed churches. Perched above the vineyards and rolling hills of the Val d’Elsa, San Gimignano combines medieval history, art, and the Tuscan way of life in a uniquely scenic setting. The town lies along the historic Via Francigena and is also famous for Vernaccia di San Gimignano, its traditional local white wine.
