Rhine Falls, Switzerland

Rhine Falls

Switzerland · Schaffhausen · 400 m

Description

Rhine Falls near Neuhausen, just west of Schaffhausen, is Europe's largest waterfall by water volume and one of Switzerland's most spectacular natural landmarks. Spanning 150 meters (492 feet), the Rhine plunges 23 meters (75 feet) over a limestone ledge, creating a breathtaking display of roaring water and mist. Viewing platforms on both banks and sightseeing boats to the iconic central rock offer unforgettable close-up perspectives. Overlooking the falls, the medieval Laufen Castle features panoramic terraces with spectacular views. A visit to the Rhine Falls is easily combined with exploring the historic old town of Schaffhausen and the landmark Munot Fortress.
