Description
The Kinabatangan River (Sungai Kinabatangan) is one of Malaysia's most important wildlife corridors and ranks among Borneo's richest natural areas. This tannin-stained river winds through the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, where extensive lowland rainforests provide vital habitat for numerous endangered species. The river is renowned for its wildlife cruises, offering excellent opportunities to spot wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys, Bornean pygmy elephants, saltwater crocodiles, hornbills, and many other bird species. The jungle lodges of Sukau and Bilit serve as popular bases for wildlife viewing and nature experiences. The Kinabatangan is widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia's premier destinations for wildlife watching.
