Kinabalu National Park (Taman Negara Kinabalu) in the Malaysian state of Sabah is Malaysia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's most biodiverse protected areas. Dominated by 4,095-metre Mount Kinabalu (Gunung Kinabalu), the country's highest peak and the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea, the park is renowned for its lush montane rainforests, rare plants such as pitcher plants and the giant Rafflesia, and spectacular hiking trails. The classic two-day summit climb to witness sunrise is among Southeast Asia's most iconic trekking experiences, rewarding visitors with breathtaking panoramic views over Borneo.
