Description
The Haa Valley is the westernmost inhabited valley of Bhutan and was closed to visitors until 2002, which has kept it quieter and plainer than anywhere else on the western circuit. Two small temples at its head, the White and Black Temples, are among the oldest in the country and were founded in the seventh century according to local tradition. The road in crosses the Chele La at nearly four thousand metres, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan, with the peak of Jomolhari visible on a clear morning. The pass is closed by snow for parts of the winter.
