Eltz Castle
Germany · Rhineland-Palatinate · 218 m
Description
Eltz Castle is one of Germany's most famous and best-preserved medieval castles. Perched high above the Elzbach Valley, a tributary of the Moselle River, the picturesque complex of towers, half-timbered architecture, and fortified walls has remained in the ownership of the same family since the 12th century. Unlike many other castles, Eltz Castle was never destroyed and still preserves its historic architecture, original furnished interiors, and an impressive treasury featuring armor, gold and silver artifacts, and priceless works of art. Its idyllic forest approach and spectacular setting make Eltz Castle one of Germany's most iconic and rewarding cultural landmarks.
