Description
The Dolomites (Dolomiti) are a spectacular mountain landscape in the northeastern Italian Alps, renowned for their pale, rugged limestone peaks that glow in striking shades of pink and red in the morning and evening light. Parts of the mountain range are designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with monumental rock faces, dramatic towers, and iconic peaks forming one of Europe’s most distinctive landscapes. Between the mountains lie emerald-green valleys, sweeping alpine meadows, dense forests, and idyllic mountain lakes, while famous natural landmarks such as the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, Seceda, and the Sella massif rank among the region’s defining sights. In summer, the Dolomites offer outstanding opportunities for hiking, mountaineering, climbing, and scenic via ferrata routes. In winter, much of the region transforms into an extensive winter sports destination, with renowned areas around Cortina d’Ampezzo and the Sella Ronda. Combining spectacular high-alpine scenery with traditional mountain villages, Alpine culture, and Italian flair, the Dolomites rank among the most impressive year-round destinations in the Alps.
