Description
Danyang (단양) is a small town on a bend of the dammed Namhan River in North Chungcheong, hemmed in by limestone hills that give it its two specialities, caves and viewpoints. Gosu Cave is the best known, a kilometre of walkways and steep steel stairs through chambers of stalactites. Above the water, three rock pinnacles called Dodamsambong stand out of the river and are the image the county sells. The Mancheonha Skywalk projects a glass floor eighty metres over the gorge, with a zipline and an alpine coaster beside it. Behind the town, Sobaeksan National Park rises to over fourteen hundred metres and holds Guinsa, an unusual temple built in stacked tiers up a narrow ravine. Danyang garlic goes into everything, including the bread.
