Description
Conwy is a historic market town on the north coast of Wales and an exceptionally well-preserved center of medieval architecture. Its imposing castle and 1.3 kilometers of town walls, with 21 towers, were built from 1283 under Edward I and now form part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Conwy Castle rises dramatically above the Conwy Estuary, while historic buildings such as the richly decorated Elizabethan townhouse Plas Mawr add to the town’s character. Along the quay stand the house known as the “Smallest House in Great Britain” and Thomas Telford’s historic suspension bridge. Surrounded by the Conwy Valley and the mountains of Eryri, Conwy is an ideal base for exploring North Wales.
