Short description of Arbatax
Arbatax is a small port on the east coast of Sardinia in the Ogliastra region, known for the red porphyry rocks that rise straight from the sea beside its harbour. Ferries connect it with the Italian mainland, and excursion boats head north to the coves of the Gulf of Orosei, among them Cala Goloritzé and Cala Mariolu. Around the town lie the sheltered bay of Porto Frailis, the lighthouse of Capo Bellavista and the red rock stacks of Cea beach. Inland the limestone plateau of Golgo and the cliffs of Pedra Longa offer hiking. Arbatax is a quieter base for the Ogliastra coast.
