The Aosta Valley (Valle d’Aosta) is Italy’s smallest region and a spectacular high-alpine landscape in the heart of the Alps. Surrounded by the towering massifs of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and Gran Paradiso, the region is known for its dramatic mountain scenery, medieval castles, and the Roman heritage of its capital, Aosta. Courmayeur and Breuil-Cervinia rank among Italy’s best-known winter sports destinations, while the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car and Gran Paradiso National Park attract nature lovers and hikers with glaciers, Alpine ibex, and mountain meadows. The Aosta Valley blends Italian and French influences with Alpine culture, traditional mountain villages, and some of Europe’s most impressive landscapes.
