Description
The Verdon Gorge (Gorges du Verdon) is one of Europe’s most spectacular canyons and one of Provence’s most impressive natural landscapes. The emerald-to-turquoise Verdon River has carved deep into the limestone, creating a canyon around 25 kilometers long with dramatic cliffs rising up to 700 meters. The gorge is known for its breathtaking viewpoints, hiking trails and climbing routes, as well as kayaking and boating from the turquoise waters of Lac de Sainte-Croix. Scenic roads such as the Route des Crêtes and the picturesque village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, nestled between steep cliffs, add to the experience. Often referred to as the “Grand Canyon of Europe”, the Verdon Gorge ranks among the most remarkable natural destinations in southern France.
