The Taurus Mountains (Toros Dağları) form the rugged mountain range that separates Turkey's Mediterranean coast from the Anatolian Plateau, stretching for more than 1,000 kilometers from the Aegean Sea to the Euphrates. They are renowned for their dramatic limestone peaks, deep valleys, karst plateaus, and the alpine lakes of the Yedigöller region. The Aladağlar range forms the mountainous heart of the Taurus and is one of Turkey's premier destinations for trekking and rock climbing. Traditional Yörük summer pastures, extensive cedar and juniper forests, and wildlife including bezoar ibex and golden eagles characterize this remarkable landscape. The Taurus Mountains are among Turkey's most spectacular natural regions.
