Ribadeo, Spain

Ribadeo

Spain · Galicia · 45 m

Description

Ribadeo sits at the mouth of the Eo estuary on the northern coast of Galicia, where the province of Lugo meets Asturias. A few kilometres west lies its reason for fame, the Playa de las Catedrales, a beach whose cliffs the Atlantic has carved into arches, buttresses and stone naves that can only be walked at low tide. Access is capped by permit through the summer months. The town itself keeps a quarter of indiano houses built with money made in the Americas, the twin lighthouses of Isla Pancha on their walkway islet, and a viewpoint on Monte Santa Cruz over the whole estuary.
