Description
Punakaiki is a small coastal village on the rugged west coast of New Zealand's South Island, best known for the spectacular Pancake Rocks. These remarkable layered limestone formations resemble enormous stacks of pancakes and rank among the region's most iconic natural attractions. At high tide and during rough seas, seawater is forced through natural blowholes, sending dramatic plumes of spray high into the air. The surrounding Paparoa National Park features lush rainforest, limestone landscapes, river gorges, and scenic walking trails.
