Description
Port Barton is a quiet fishing village on Palawan's northwest coast, roughly midway between Puerto Princesa and El Nido on the classic overland route across the island. Its sheltered bay is calmer and less developed than its famous neighbors, ringed by forested hills and dotted with small islands reached on affordable day tours. Exotic Island, German Island and the Starfish Island sandbar are popular stops for swimming and snorkeling, while Bigaho and Papuwyan waterfalls sit inland behind short jungle treks. Nearby San Vicente's Long Beach, at nearly fifteen kilometers the longest white sand beach in the Philippines, remains largely undeveloped. Port Barton draws budget travelers seeking a slower, laid-back stop between Palawan's two better-known hubs.
