Napier is a charming Art Deco city in the heart of the Hawke's Bay wine region on New Zealand's North Island. Rebuilt in the Art Deco style after the devastating 1931 earthquake, it is home to one of the world's finest collections of 1930s architecture. Pastel-coloured buildings define the compact city centre, while the surrounding Hawke's Bay is renowned for its Syrah and Chardonnay wines. The Marine Parade waterfront and National Aquarium are popular attractions, and nearby Cape Kidnappers is home to one of the world's largest mainland colonies of Australasian gannets.
