Description
Mount Nemrut (Nemrut Dağı) is one of Turkey's most remarkable archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On its 2,134-metre summit, King Antiochus I of Commagene commissioned a monumental sanctuary in the 1st century BC, featuring a massive burial mound and colossal statues of gods and the king himself. Today, the statues' iconic stone heads, separated from their bodies, are among the most famous monuments of the ancient world. Especially at sunrise and sunset, Mount Nemrut offers an unforgettable atmosphere and is considered one of Turkey's most spectacular travel destinations.
