Description
Iloilo is a historic port city on the island of Panay and the cultural and culinary center of the Western Visayas. The city is known for its well-preserved colonial heritage, including the historic Calle Real business district, Jaro Cathedral, Molo Church, and elegant ancestral mansions dating from the region's sugar boom. Iloilo is also famous for the colorful Dinagyang Festival held each January, its outstanding local cuisine featuring specialties such as La Paz Batchoy and Pancit Molo, and the scenic Iloilo River Esplanade. As the region's principal commercial and transportation hub, Iloilo also serves as the main gateway to Guimaras Island, renowned for its exceptionally sweet mangoes, and to other island destinations across the Visayas.
