Åland · Åland
Short description of Geta
Geta is the northern parish of Åland's main island and holds its highest ground, the Getabergen, a hump of red granite rising straight out of the sea. A road climbs to the top, where an observation tower looks over the whole northern archipelago and a café serves waffles beside it. From the summit a marked nature trail leads down through the rock to a string of caves and boulder passages left behind by the ice. The villages below are small, and the coast around them is bare rock, pine and inlet. It is the usual half-day drive from Mariehamn.
