Short description of Föglö

Föglö is an island group of Åland's southern archipelago, half an hour by car ferry from Svinö on the main island. Its village of Degerby was the centre of the archipelago before Mariehamn existed, and it keeps the look of those days, with painted wooden houses along the harbour, an eighteenth-century inn and a small local museum. The roads run over bridges and causeways from island to island through pine, rock and water. In summer it is one of the most cycled corners of Åland, flat, quiet and within a day's ride of the ferry. Guest harbours make it a regular stop for sailors.
