Short description of Dakhla

Dakhla is a town on a long, narrow peninsula on the Atlantic coast of Western Sahara, a territory under Moroccan administration whose status remains disputed. Its shallow, forty kilometre lagoon and the steady trade winds that blow for most of the year have made it one of the best kitesurfing and windsurfing spots in the world, and camps line the shore south of town. The Dune Blanche, a white dune rising from the lagoon at low tide, is the favourite outing, along with oyster farms, hot springs at Asma and flamingos on the mudflats. Direct flights come from Casablanca and several European cities, and most visitors book a kite camp week.
