Description
Bozzhyra is the edge of the Ustyurt plateau falling away into a white chalk valley, and the view from the rim over the two pinnacles known as the fangs is the reason people drive three hundred kilometres to stand there. This was the floor of the Tethys sea and the rock is full of shells. There is no village, no water and no shade, so visitors either camp on the rim or sleep in a yurt set up for the season. Tracks turn to slick clay after rain and the plateau has no shelter from the wind.
