Description
Arthur’s Pass National Park is the alpine heart of New Zealand’s Southern Alps and one of the country’s most spectacular mountain landscapes. Stretching along State Highway 73 and the railway connecting Christchurch with the West Coast, the park is renowned for its rugged peaks, deep valleys, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic mountain passes. The small alpine village of Arthur’s Pass serves as the main gateway for hiking and exploring the park’s pristine wilderness. Highlights include the impressive Devil’s Punchbowl Waterfall and the legendary TranzAlpine, widely regarded as one of the world's most scenic train journeys. Visitors also have a good chance of spotting the kea, the world's only alpine parrot, which is famous for its intelligence, curiosity, and playful nature.
