American Samoa · Manu'a Islands

Short description of Ofu

Ofu is the island in the Manu'a group that holds what is often called the finest beach in the South Pacific, a two mile arc of white sand below the green wall of Tumu Mountain with a coral reef a few metres offshore. The beach belongs to the National Park of American Samoa, and its corals are studied because they survive water temperatures that bleach reefs elsewhere. Almost nobody is there. A bridge joins Ofu to Olosega, and a trail climbs Tumu for the view over both. Flights are few and can be cancelled, so a stay here is planned with slack.
