Description
Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, a single limestone rock rising 426 meters straight from the Strait separating Europe from Africa. The Upper Rock Nature Reserve holds St Michael's Cave, the Great Siege Tunnels dug through solid rock in the eighteenth century, and Europe's only wild population of Barbary macaques. Below, Main Street mixes British red phone boxes with Spanish tapas bars behind the fortified walls of the Old Town, and the airport runway crosses the only road to the Spanish border. Gibraltar combines dense military history, dramatic geology and a distinctly British outpost on the Mediterranean.
